In an interesting fight on November 23, 2007 super middleweights (really two overgrown welterweights) Ricardo Mayorga and Fernando Vargas tangled.  The fight went the full twelve rounds.  Mayorga, courtesy of knockdowns in the first and the eleventh walked away with a close majority decision.  Both men fought well, in fact Mayorga looked better than he had in a couple of years.  Vargas announced his retirement after the fight.  I think a good decision on his part.  He had a good career though the kos he suffered at the hands of Trinidad, De La Hoya, and Mosely took a lot out of him.

1.  Vargas enters wearing a big sombrero.  Notice
Sylvester Stallone in lower left-hand corner.

2.  Getting ready for action.

3.  That unique moment in boxing--combat ready to begin.

4.  Vargas misses jab.

5.  Mayorga is aggresssive and it throws Vargas off.

6.  Both men are throwing.

7.  Mayorga begins to back Vargas up.

8.  Vargas is covering up.

9.  The fight is on.

10.  Lots of Mayorga right hands.  His most effective punch.

11.  Pressure, pressure.

12.  Again, Mayorga throwing, Vargas covering up.

13.  Mayorga is working hard, backing Vargas up.

14.  Mayorga goes downstairs and hurts Vargas.

15.  Vargas stumbles from punch and goes down.

16.  He's not badly hurt but still a 2 point round for Mayorga.

17.  Getting up.

18.  Getting a count.

19.  Mayorga waits.

20.  Ready to continue

21.  Vargas goes back to jabbing.

22.  That right is getting in, not cleanly but doing damage.

23.  Early on--all Mayorga.

24.  Vargas is punching back--but the round is lost.

25.  Jabbing contest.

26.  That right makes Vargas cover again.

27.  Long left lands.

28.  Vargas covering up.

29.  Right hand crazy.

30.  Vargas begins to land.

31.  Fight tightens as Vargas gets going with jabs and defense.

32.  On the side of head.

33.  Many close rounds with both landing.

34.  Banging together.

35.  Well, ready to block wide shots anyway.

36.  Finding each other.

37.  Over the top.

38.  Left uppercut.

39.  Charging in.

40.  Again, that right.

41.  Trying, trying.

42.  Now where's that opening.

43.  Vargas is cut and Mayorga keeps throwing rights.

44.  This left stung.

45.  A Mayorga right drops an off balance Vargas in 11th.

46.  Mayorga is very happy.

47.  Vargas is getting up and Mayorga is as happy as a lottery winner.

48.  Vargas is ready to continue.

49.  Mayorga's party.

50.  Mayorga presses but Vargas is no pushover.

51.  Another right makes Vargas wince.

52.  Another right.  Again.

53.  Fighters earn their money--the hard way.

54.  Vargas recovers and tries to fight back.

55.  They both miss and their heads are out of harms way.

56.  Vargas announces retirement.  Good luck, Fernando.

Kermit Cintron successfully defended his IBF welterweight championship belt against tough Jesse Feliciano.  Ko in 10.
Roman Karmazin Ko'd Alejandro in 3 with a digging right to the body.
Jason Litzau decisioned Edel Ruiz over 10.  Litzau needs these tough solid journeymen opponents to develop.
Fernando Angulo won a lackluster 10 rd decision over classy Damian Fuller.
Henry Crawford kept undefeated by decisioning hard trying Jose Bermejo.

1.  Kermit Cintron started strong against Jesse Feliciano.  Landing
some good shots but there are surprises in store.

2.  Cintron had disposed of Mattyshe in two and Estrada in 10 but
Feliciano was surprisingly more trouble than both.

3.  Early on Feliciano survived before he started fighting back.

4.  Cintron punches hard with both hands.  Yeow! on the neck.

5.  Both probing.

6.  Head down, I guess is safe.

7.  Pain.

8.  Long right.

9.  Deflecting hard hook.

10.  If Feliciano could've hit him with some of those long shots the fight might've turned out different.

11.  Long left to nose.

12.  Feliciano begins to get in close and tighten the fight.

13.  Trying to find him.

14.  Cintron's mobility and jab and range came in handy against
somebody who could soak up punishment.

15.  Well, for sure, Feliciano wanted to block those hooks.

16.  Slipping a punch.

17.  Look who's covering up now.

18.  Getting hit, but not squarely--good for survival.

19.  That hurt.

21.  Short punches are keeping Feliciano in the fight.

22.  Hard left stops Feliciano in tracks.

23.  Still coming forward and punching, fight tightens.

24.  Cintron can hit.  You have to be careful.

25.  Hard uppercut.

26.  Followed by hard right.

27.  Feliciano is out on his feet.

28.  Ref stops fight.  Replay shows it was a good call.  Feliciano took some heavy shots at the end.

29.  Roman Karmazin worked over Alejandro Garcia before Ko'ing him.

30.  Karmazin was just too rangy and skilled for Garcia.

31.  Body shots hurt Garcia early on.

32.  Hit that tummy.

33.  Body shot drops Garcia.  (Second time.)

34.  I'm glad I'm  not feeling what he's feeling.

35.  Garcia is struggling to put head and body back together.

36.  Karmazin ejects mouthpiece--his night's work is over.

37.  Always  nice to win.

38.  Jason Litzau decisioned Edel Ruiz over 10.  Litzau fought a conservative fight but was a clear winner.

39.  Litzau missses over top.

40.  Getting low--Litzau--tall and lean--better get used to it.

41.  Trying to find that opening.

42.  I guess for the short guys you need  good uppercut to keep them
from dropping low all the time.

43.  Ruiz had enough experience to make Litzau work.

44.  Again, missing over the top.

45.  A chance to punch and hit  him.

46.  Where is that opening?

47.  Litzau's speed is the telling factor.

48.  But Ruiz, despite 17 losses is no pushover.

49.  Litzau launches fast left.

50.  Fernando Anguo took a 10 round decision over Damian Fuller.  I guess the judges rewarded him for making  the fight.

51.  Fuller probes for opening.

52.  Angulo presses.

53.  Pressing, now on other side of ring.

54.  Fuller is hard to find but  not punching enough.

55.  Back to earlier pattern.

56.  Nothing decisive but enough to catch judges eyes.

57.  Tight defense but not much punching.

58.  A little wide.

59.  A little out of order, but Cintron consoles Feliciano.

60.  Undefeated welterweight prospect Henry Crawford outboxed Jose Bermejo over 8 rounds.

61.  Looking Bermejo over.

62.  Crawford landed early then mostly coasted and outboxed
Bermejo.

63.  Building up a lead.

64.  Bermejo has the right idea but not enough speed to implement it.

65.  Pressing, but not quite enough.

66.  A little wheelhouse action.
